EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT AUTOMOTIVE PAINT PROTECTION

December 30, 20193 min read

Any self-respecting car enthusiast knows the importance of automotive paint protection. Enthusiasts in the U.S. spend millions of dollars each year on car care products alone. If you want your car to look like new, it should be in your best interest to protect its paint job.

Fortunately, there is no shortage of ways to protect your car’s paint and exterior. From wax and sealants to clear bra protection films, car owners have multiple options to keep their paint clean, shiny, and protected.

AUTO PAINT PROTECTION FACTS

Here is what you need to know about protecting your car’s paint.

1. NOT ALL CLEANING PRODUCTS ARE UNIVERSAL

Not all car cleaning products are created equal. Just because a cleaning product is cheap and popular, it doesn’t mean that it’s the best or most effective. When you’re planning to use the cleaning products on your Porsche or BMW, you should be careful about which product to use.

While it sounds like it makes sense, the dish soap on your counter isn’t exactly the best cleaning solution for your car. Finding the ideal cleaning product for your car is critical. This is especially true if you own a vintage or luxury car. It’s always best to err on the side of caution when dealing with cleaning products.

2. CLAYING CONSTANTLY IS NOT GOOD FOR THE PAINT

Claying is the process of removing various debris and contaminants from a car’s paint. A clay bar treatment is used to remove dirt that has become embedded in your car’s paint.

While claying is certainly a good paint maintenance step, doing it constantly is not good for the condition of the paint. Repeatedly claying the paint will result in micro-scratches. As a good rule of thumb, make sure that you buff the paint after the clay treatment.

3. GET A PAINT PROTECTION FILM

A clear bra or paint protection film is a good way to provide superior paint job protection. This transparent film adds a protective layer that helps preserve the car’s paint job. The film protects the paint from dirt, dust, scratches, dings, grime, and many others.

However, you should also keep in mind that not all paint protection films are created equal. Some films are designed to be more effective on certain cars. Get a premium clear bra that can be universally applied from a reputable auto customization shop.

4. GET A CERAMIC COATING

As an alternative to paint protection film (ppf), consider getting a ceramic coating to protect your vehicle’s paint. Ceramic coatings are utilized by many car owners for its hydrophobic qualities as well as its ability to keep contaminants off of the paint, make car washing easier (while also reducing the chance of abrasions or wash marks), and making the car look overall more glossy.

Ceramic Coating and Paint Protection Films do have some similarities, however. They can both stop chemical stains, keep your car look newer, and prevent oxidation.

5. DON’T OVER-WASH YOUR CAR

When washing your car, there’s such thing as “overwashing.” We get it, you love your car that you wash it every chance you get.

However, this is a mistake, as frequent washing can affect the condition of the paint. Sure, your car may look nice temporarily, but the paint might suffer from abrasions over time due to excessive washing.
